Kornberg School of Dentistry achieves significant NIH ranking
February 18, 2026

The Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University has achieved a significant NIH ranking milestone, placing among the top 25 dental schools nationally for NIH research funding. The ranking reflects years of strategic investment in faculty research, expanded lab infrastructure, and new interdisciplinary collaborations across Temple's health sciences campus.
Dean Amid Ismail attributed the milestone to a sustained commitment to translational research that bridges discovery science with patient outcomes. The achievement positions Kornberg as a rising R1 research institution within dental education, drawing competitive federal grant funding in areas including dental informatics, AI-assisted diagnostics, oral microbiome science, and biomaterials.
The recognition is expected to attract new faculty and graduate researchers to the school, further strengthening the cycle of grant-funded inquiry and clinical translation that has defined Kornberg's recent trajectory. School leadership views the ranking as a foundation for future ambitions, including entry into the top 15 NIH-funded dental schools within the next decade.
