On December 9, Amid Ismail, dean of the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University, received the 2019 Globy Award for Education Leadership from the Global Philadelphia Association. The award recognizes leaders who have "elevated the status of the Philadelphia community on the global stage." Ismail was honored for creating collaborative programs and research initiatives serving underserved populations.

Ismail has led the dental school since 2008, transforming patient care throughout Philadelphia and surrounding regions. Under his direction, the institution completed successful accreditation reviews in 2011 and 2018 while modernizing facilities and technology. Notable accomplishments include hosting international dental faculty from the Middle East and partnering with Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. to establish the first federally qualified health center integrated with a major dental institution.

Ismail emphasized that "the award recognizes the Kornberg School's role in educating diverse students and serving as a bridge-builder among communities." Robert McNeill, chair of the Global Philadelphia Association's board, stated that the organization privileges "honoring these local leaders who have raised the profile of our city" internationally.
