Alumnus funds ethics education for dental students

Larry Stone, a 1973 graduate of Temple's Kornberg School of Dentistry, has made a substantial gift to support ethics education for current dental students. Stone observed that while dentistry has transformed dramatically since his graduation — particularly in technology, care delivery, insurance, and practice management — "The only thing that hasn't changed is humanity." He noted that ethical dilemmas facing dentists have multiplied alongside these changes.
His donation will establish a seminar program where students compete in resolving hypothetical ethical scenarios to win scholarship prizes. Stone explained his goal: "I'm hoping that it will give them some guidance or reassurance to make decisions going forward." Stone's connection to Temple runs deep — he attended Temple for undergraduate studies before returning for dental school, and has an established endowed scholarship at Boyer College of Music and Dance honoring his father, David L. Stone.
Stone credited his neighbor Leonard Abrams, a renowned periodontist, with directing him toward dentistry. He emphasized the fit: "I get to work with my hands and use my interest in medicine and biology." Stone reflected on his commitment to his alma mater, stating he considers it natural to give back.
